You know the difference between this and most other releases and all these "Leaks"?

The fans here are FAR more actively seeking information and the googlefu is strong here

I have never seen a community so actively seeking info about something before

ANet is handling the situation badly imo. Since Eye of the North there has been no significant new content. There should be two development teams: one working on Guild Wars 2 and one working on a new addition of Guild Wars 1 to fill the gap. The GW1 addition can be a new campaign or maybe a high-level only add-on like GW:EN was.

You do understand that doing that would put GW2 further back right? and basically split the GW2 dev team

Yes we do. All they are currently relying on to keep the game going is grind. I don't think that is a good strategy for a game who's initial marketing hyped that this isn't a game where you get ahead by sheer time spent playing. Their current course is just alienating some of their early supporters.

So you want Anet to prolonge the games death by adding a new campaign? It'll just push GW2 back and the new campaign will turn into all the other ones, repetitive. Plus the new campaign would probably introduce new classes and new skills which further mess up PvP.

Actually, no, I don't. As far as I know they can put together a "new" team. That way GW2 won't be pushed back further and GW1 will have some content. I really don't see the problem, besides possible financial issues or the lack of Devs.

Fortunately, Anet has way more business sense than you do.

You're suppose to spend your money in times of a recession to stimulate the economy. *roll eyes*

Besides, if they play their cards right, they might just be able to make some profit out of it

It does surprise me that they decided to stop development on GW1 in order to work on GW2. I am wondering whether the shockwaves of Tabula Rasa was still making NCSoft skittish or whether the buy-the-box business model just does not allow ANet to be splitting developments in such a way. ANet has 170 employees, which is huge. I would bet that unlike GW1, where only once did we get more content within 6 mos., the GW2 content updates to buy will be much more aggressive. Their sophomore offering is going to make or break ANet imho.

Perhaps they decided not to show it at Gamescom, instead waiting show more at PAX?

They would need to get to ~300 man mark to make it work. Company culture would suffer (lack of bonding), employee quality would suffer (if you go on hiring spree, you eventually have to hire people you would not even consider interviewing back when you were in small company.), Productivity goes to standstill (imagine training hundred+ newbies.) And chapters are not guaranteed to sell well, but you are guaranteed to have to pay employees well.

Simply, there is no way they would do it. It costs too much in pretty much every respect.

They HAVE spent money, they have increased both the GW1 Live Team from 2 peple to 7 and ALSO increased and are STILL increasing the GW2 dev team and hiring

there is NOTHING new they could do for GW1, however I know that Linsey still has lots of things she wants to do for GW1, however those things are long and time consuming things to be done and the big April update took the best part of 6 months to make and it IS a time consuming process... Hell, its also common knowledge that Linsey barely goes home some weeks with all the effort she puts in, but instead of congratulating her on the hard work and effort most just criticise that its not enough and that just makes me sick

why does this surprise you? The reasons for it are clear, the GW1 engine and database can't do what they want so they decided to restart it for GW2 and learn from other mistakes at the same time

and they themselves in many interviews used the word Mistakes too

but also remember, this decision happened BEFORE Tabula Rasa died aswell, they may have known it was coming of course, in house chat and all that, but ANet dev teams are separate from the teams that worked on TR so they have no bearing on each other and as NC Soft would have thoguht at the time ANet only had GW1 and it was, as far as NC Soft was concerned, a success

You mean recycling old content and random skill updates? :-)

There is a lot of new things they could do for GW1. The question is: Are they willing and able to spend the time and money needed and is it worth it?

The answers to the first question is probably no, otherwise they would have. But is it worth it? Of course! If GW2 isn't going to be released any time soon (didn't NCsoft quarterly report said there would be an announcement around 2011-2012?) they definitely need to think of something before GW dies even further, which, in my opinion, would be a big waste of an awesome game.

By the way, your statement about Lindsey still wanting to do lots of things is a bit contradicting. You said there is nothing new they could do for GW, yet Linsey still has lots of things to do for GW1. Does this mean she's going to recycle more old content?

I wish you good luck on whatever the new position you'll get bumped to then.

what old content? they added daily missions sure, but they only work the same as in other MMO's and was asked for by us the players, no, don't be obtuse, you know I mean the Menagery

oh and FYI, if you listened to my shows that night for the b'day party when I interviewed Linsey with both Martin and Regina, you would also know that the makeover system was done by Joe on his own while he was eating lunch and shown off in a meeting as a complete surprise

I admit they are crap recordings, especially as Spacefreak (because it was 9 hours of shows) tried to butcher out the music (shame, great tunes played too, especially by Martin and Regina) but they will be up once we finish our website updates and get the event page done and up finally

Let's go over this again.

1. GW2 was announced very, very, VERY early in it's development because ANet needed to explain the lack of new campaigns for GW. No other company would have ever mentioned an upcoming game that early.

2. ArenaNet never, never, NEVER gives exact dates for anything until it is completely ready to happen. They don't even announce annual festivals until the week they will begin.

3. ArenaNet is aware of what is happening in the on-line gaming world. Over the years since they announced GW2, they have seen highly touted games crash and burn because they were published before they were polished. While GW was released in what was a very raw state, it was an experiment (in a way) and, because it was FTP, players stuck with ANet through all the changes. ANet is also aware that they can't do that with GW2. Fans expect so much from this upcoming game, that if it were to be released (even as a beta) with a lack of content and and a host of problems, the game would not survive the first six months.

4. No employee of ArenaNet will even hint at anything not officially approved as a public comment. They happen to like their jobs more than they like the fans and who can blame them. After all, their fellow employees don't give them the amount of grief that the fans do.

Well they'll show the new Anet staff shirts used for tradeshows! I'm also hoping on a few pics of their football games! And why not big size concept art for GW2.

In short: don't expect anything and you'll be more than happy with whatever comes, or not!
